Indian wedding invitation wording for every function

Copy and personalise warm invitation wording for Haldi, Mehendi, Sangeet, Wedding, Reception, Nikah, Walima and engagement celebrations.

Indian wedding invitation wording has two jobs: honour the families and make the celebration easy to understand. That becomes especially important when the wedding includes several functions, venues and different guest groups.

The examples below are designed to be personalised. Replace every bracketed detail and choose language that genuinely sounds like your family.

A simple wording formula

Most function invitations can follow this structure:

  1. A warm opening from the couple or families
  2. The names of the people being celebrated
  3. The function name
  4. Date and time
  5. Venue and city
  6. Dress or colour guidance, only when useful
  7. A clear RSVP request
  8. One invitation link for the full details

For a multi-event celebration, use one Indian wedding invitation website so guests can see only the functions, maps and RSVP options relevant to them.

High-energy

The stage is ready and the dance floor is calling. Celebrate [Name] and [Name] at their Sangeet on [Date]. Bring your best moves and RSVP here: [Link]

Mention the start time accurately when performances are scheduled. Guests need to know whether the time is for arrival, dinner or the first performance.

Blessings-first

With gratitude for the love and blessings that brought us here, our families invite you to celebrate the wedding of [Name] and [Name] on [Date].

The main ceremony invitation should make the exact ceremony time, venue entrance and RSVP deadline easy to find.

Reception invitation wording

Formal reception

Please join us for an evening reception celebrating the marriage of [Name] and [Name] on [Date] at [Time], [Venue]. Dinner and celebrations will follow.

Post-wedding celebration

We are married and ready to celebrate with you. Join [Name] and [Name] for their wedding reception on [Date] at [Venue], [City]. Invitation and RSVP: [Link]

If only the reception is included for that guest, avoid wording that implies access to every earlier function.

Nikah invitation wording

Respectful and simple

With the blessings of our families, we invite you to witness the Nikah of [Name] and [Name] on [Date] at [Time], [Venue]. Your presence and prayers would be deeply cherished.

From the families

The [Family name] and [Family name] families request the honour of your presence at the Nikah ceremony of [Name] and [Name], followed by [meal/reception details].

Families may choose to include a religious opening or verse. Use wording approved by the family and community rather than adding sacred language only for decoration.

Walima invitation wording

Traditional

With joy and gratitude, we invite you to the Walima celebrating [Name] and [Name] on [Date] at [Time], [Venue]. We look forward to sharing this blessed occasion with you.

Modern

Please join us for the Walima reception of [Name] and [Name]—an evening of family, food and celebration on [Date]. Details and RSVP: [Link]

Keep Nikah and Walima as separate events when the guest lists, venues or response requirements differ.

Roka or engagement wording

Warm family announcement

With happy hearts, our families invite you to celebrate the Roka of [Name] and [Name] on [Date] at [Time], [Venue]. Your presence will make the beginning even more special.

Modern engagement

A new chapter begins. Join [Name] and [Name] as they celebrate their engagement on [Date]. Open the invitation and RSVP here: [Link]

Wording for a multi-day wedding

When several functions share one invitation, introduce the celebration once:

With the blessings of our families, we invite you to celebrate the wedding of [Name] and [Name] from [Start date] to [End date] in [City]. Your personal invitation includes the functions, timings and venues planned for you: [Link]

Then give every event its own heading, date, time, venue, map and RSVP choice. This is clearer than placing the complete itinerary in one WhatsApp message.

Details that prevent guest confusion

Before sending, check that the invitation answers:

  • Who is hosting?
  • Who is being celebrated?
  • What is the exact function?
  • When should guests arrive?
  • Where is the entrance or venue?
  • Is there a dress or colour note?
  • Are children or plus-ones included?
  • Which date is the RSVP deadline?
  • Who should guests contact with a question?

Use these wedding RSVP questions to build the response form.

Should the wording come from the couple or parents?

Either is appropriate. Choose one voice and use it consistently.

Use “we invite you” when the couple is speaking. Use “our families invite you” for a shared voice. For a traditional parent-led invitation, name the hosting parents or families at the beginning.

The wording should reflect the real hosts and relationships, not a rule copied from another wedding.

How to adapt the wording for WhatsApp

The invitation page can carry the formal wording. The accompanying chat message should be shorter and personal:

Dear [Name], we would be delighted to celebrate [Function] with you on [Date]. Your personal invitation, venue details and RSVP are here: [Link]

Final wording check

Read every line aloud. Confirm names, spellings, titles, dates, time zones, venues and map pins with both families. Ask one person who did not write the invitation to test the link and RSVP on a phone.

Beautiful wording creates warmth. Clear structure turns that warmth into a guest experience that feels effortless.
